Cleaning Process

With equipment properly set up, the cleaning process focuses on efficiently removing dust and debris while monitoring for consistent performance throughout.

  • a. Power on the device
    • Turn on the vacuum or dust extractor before inserting any tools into the vent.
    • This creates negative pressure, preventing loosened dust from blowing back into the room.
    • Check that air is flowing through the hose — poor airflow at this stage suggests blockages or poor suction.
  • b. Adjust Settings Based on the Environment

No two vents are alike. Use these environment-based guidelines to avoid over-agitating fragile ducts or under-cleaning robust commercial systems.

    • Residential Dry Vent (typically 4" aluminum or semi-rigid flex duct):
      • Use medium suction to avoid collapse or tearing.
      • Start with soft brush heads.
      • Avoid over-extending powered rods that could puncture elbows or joints.
    • Commercial Vent Systems (metal ducting, long runs):
      • Use maximum suction and firm brushes.
      • Employ rotary brushes powered by a drill for deep cleaning.
      • If debris is compacted or oily, use compressed air tools to dislodge before vacuuming.
    • Adjust Cleaning Tools Based On:
      • Length of vent: Use longer rods or camera extensions.
      • Bends or elbows: Be gentle when navigating to prevent tool jamming.
      • Moisture: Wet lint may require slower passes and more suction to remove.
  • c. Monitor Airflow and Coverage

No two vents are alike. Use these environment-based guidelines to avoid over-agitating fragile ducts or under-cleaning robust commercial systems.

    • Real-Time Monitoring Tips:
      • Check the extraction hose for debris movement — a clear stream of lint confirms effective suction.
      • Use a vent camera or flashlight to check wall buildup before and after cleaning.
      • Visually inspect exterior vent flap or hood for lint discharge and full airflow.
      • After a full pass, run the vacuum a few extra minutes to collect any remaining suspended dust.
    • Quality Control:
      • Wipe down vent edges and surrounding walls.
      • Take a before/after photo using inspection camera for record-keeping or customer confidence.
    • Log:
      • i. Date and time of service
      • ii. Type of equipment used
      • iii. Amount of debris collected (rough weight or bin capacity)
      • iv. Any issues encountered (e.g., bird nest, crushed duct, clogged lint trap)
