The word home is often invested with tender images of love, warmth, family, and kinship. Because of these associations, the concept of home has inspired such phrases as “Home is where the heart is,” and “Be it ever so humble, there’s no place like home.”

Air Quality Concern for your Home

Unfortunately, however, some people unwittingly live in homes that are quite literally making them sick.

According to the Canadian Lung Association, air quality problems are more common than homeowners imagine. Many aspects of your home could be causing air quality problems, such as questionable carpets, fluctuating humidity levels, radon, biologic irritants, mould, carbon monoxide, and the use of pesticides.

Air quality concerns have become an increasing focus since the announcement of the 2010-2015 Montréal Community Sustainable Development Plan. Because of an overall increase in fine particle emissions, air quality in the city has become more of a concern than ever.

Industrial activity and transportation are the main causes of emissions during the summer, while in winter, firewood and abrasives are in large part responsible for the deterioration of air quality. Montréal is not the only one responsible for these periods of poor air quality. Ontario and the United States are major sources of air pollutants in the city, although it’s difficult to accurately establish the relative share of local and cross-border sources. On 5 June of this year, Canadians celebrated a “Clean Air Day” sponsored by Environment Canada. Although this day rightly encouraged awareness of clean air and climate change issues on a large scale, it’s time for us to take a closer, more intimate look at the air quality within our own homes.

Because clean air is so vital to overall health, we’re pleased to offer Montreal air duct cleaning that is not only affordable but also makes use of botanical disinfectants reviewed for safety, efficacy and environmental impact by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), ensuring that clean air in your home does not come at the expense of the environment.
